How come UCLA can copy and post entire movies to their streaming server but Butler cannot?

UCLA's decision is based on their legal counsel's interpretation and opinion of current law -- along with having considered other information. Butler's decision to not allow the copying and streaming of commercial DVDs is based on our legal counsel's opinion. Moreover, UCLA's decision was partially based on the need to support an extensive distance education program. Currently Butler has no such program.
For legally safe alternatives you can:
- Have your department legally acquire a DVD
- Request that the Library legally acquire a DVD
- Show the DVD in class or have your students view it at the library
